Beyond the Psalms, Into the Messianic Age of Redemption, “The Psalms of Asaf”

The Psalms of Asaf are the twelve psalms numbered 50 and 73 – 83 of the Book of Psalms. The “Asafite priests” had a pre-exilic role to provide musically-based induced prophecy, and also had a post-exilic role singing praise to G-d. Asaf was appointed by the Levites to serve as a Temple musician, which means, “to sing joyful songs, accompanied by musical instruments.” In 1st Chronicles 16:5 we learn that Asaf served as the chief of the musicians, or the minister of music, during King David’s reign. Asaf was David’s music director and probably wrote much of the original, now lost, music for David’s Psalms, but much more importantly, he wrote twelve Psalms. He wrote more of the Bible than Peter, James, Jude, Jonah, Amos, Micah, Joel, Malachi, Zephaniah, Habakkuk, Nahum, Haggai, or Obadiah.

However, each time Asaf struggled, he returned to the truth that the Sovereign LORD was his refuge in the midst of the life’s swirling adversities (73:28). He clung to G-d’s rock solid faithfulness: “it is G-d who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another.” (75:7) And it is G-d who promised, “Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.” (81:10) G-d wants to feed us knowledge and have such information be applied with His wisdom.

This volume is volume five of six studies on the Book of Psalms and will be a launching pad of God’s grace, love and redemption to mankind “Beyond the Psalms, Into the Messianic Age of Redemption” is an exegesis study of man’s deepest yearning for redemption and restoration of his body, soul, and spirit.
