National Day of Prayer – PrayerFlight.org

On Thursday, May 7, 2009, PrayerFlight.org celebrated the National Day of Prayer with flights through all the state capitals and various other communities throughout the nation to ask for God’s blessing on the country, the government officials and God’s direction for our collective futures. Though we are not near a State Capital, 2 pilots and 4 high school students from Merritt Island, FL flew Servant Air Ministries’ Aztec over Brevard county and prayed for the residents, travelers, county government that makes decisions for our lives, and continued jobs for all the residence below us.

The skies were really beautiful and it was a wonderful place to praise God. Beginning at noon, Chris Tompkins, Dick Blondin and 4 students from KLD Christian School; Cody, Malisa, Emily and Brandi flew from Merritt Island Airport, out over the Atlantic by way of Port Canaveral and along the Beaches, all the way down to Sebastian Inlet. We then turned inland and headed over the communities of Palm Bay, Melbourne, Cocoa and Titusville, continuously blessing those on the ground with our prayers with the words “Jesus Is Risen” painted on the bottom of our plane. With the Kennedy Space Center in view we prayed for the jobs we have now and the future of our jobs as budgets are determined by our country’s leaders and decision makers. Flying and praying over our community began as a Prayer Flight initiative. But now, for many of us, has become a habit each time we fly.
