On January 24, 2026, Servant Air Ministries Inc. hosted a Young Eagles event at the Merritt Island Airport in the Servant Air hanger. The event featured local pilots who provided discovery flights, and our President Sam Parsons who operated simulated flights using our onsite simulator.

Weather conditions during the morning were initially unfavorable for flight operations. As late as 8:00 a.m., reports at Melbourne indicated visibility limited to five statute miles due to lingering fog. However, the Lord provided. By mid-morning, conditions began to improve as the rising sun burned off the fog layer. Around 9:00 a.m., visibility increased enough to safely resume flying activities, and the children were able to take to the air as planned. Their flights were made possible by the dedication of the program’s servant-minded volunteers whose flexibility and commitment ensured the experience continued safely and successfully.

While the fog was clearing up, there was still plenty to do around the hanger. The waiting period quickly turned into an interactive learning session. SAMI President Sam Parsons introduced the children to a flight simulator, preparing them for the flight they would soon go on. He guided them through basic flight controls and procedures while the children took turns at the controls, practicing takeoffs, turns, and landings. All the children had a fun, engaging experience, as they followed Sam’s instructions. For most, it was their first hands-on interaction with aviation.

Additionally, the EAA brought their project aircraft to the event for public display. Volunteers explained that the project is designed to teach children the fundamentals of aircraft construction. The display allowed students and visitors to see firsthand how individual components come together to form a complete airplane. The project served as both an educational centerpiece and an inspiration for future involvement in aviation.
